The John Townson “Moving On” Leadership Awards

The Townson “Moving On” Award for Leadership is a monetary award made available to students at Pacific Secondary that have demonstrated exemplary leadership, within the school and throughout the greater community. The award recognizes the personal attributes and contributions of the recipients to the greater good of Pacific Secondary and the surrounding Westshore communities in which they live.

Presentations take place in June; for graduates the presentation will be part of the graduation ceremony (June 11th), for students who are working towards graduation, the awards will be presented as part of the “Year End Barbeque” (June 10th).

This year, there are eight awards of $250 in total, four of the awards will be presented to students who are graduating in 2009 and four of the awards will be available to students who are working towards their graduation.




The successful candidate will have demonstrated the following criteria:

· A strong commitment to their academic responsibilities, characterized by strong attendance and progress in academic courses relative to the student’s abilities.

· Consistent positive citizenship, both in the school and the greater community.

· Actively engaged in organizing, implementing and participating in activities and events that have had a positive impact in the school and the greater community.

· Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

· Initiative and perseverance



Application Guidelines

Interested students are to complete an application form and author a letter that describes in detail why they feel they are a worthy candidate. Letters should address how the applicant has met the award criteria. Included in the letter should be a commitment as to how the applicant would use the money ($250.00) to prepare for their life outside the classroom. Applicants need not be a member of the school leadership class. Applications should be word-processed and signed by the applicant.

Application Guidelines

Potential applicants will submit a letter that describes in detail why they are a worthy candidate. Letters should address how the applicant has met the award criteria; with specific attention paid to: a) future plans and how the award will help you reach your goals and b) a description of how the applicant has contributed to the school and/or the greater community through the performance of community service. Letters must be word-processed and signed by the applicant.






Ajudication & Deadline:

A panel consisting of Mr. John Townson, school administration and teachers will review all applications forwarded for consideration. All applications (letter of intent) should be presented to Mr. Paul Block at Pacific Secondary, by no later than Monday, June 1st, 2009 at 4pm.
